When you complete the reporting in Unioo, you will be asked to specify your citizenship and tax residence. Part of this involves providing your TIN number. Here we explain what it is and why it is required.

What is a TIN number?

TIN stands for Tax Identification Number — in Danish: skatteidentifikationsnummer. It is the number used to identify taxable individuals in each country.

For Danes, the TIN number is the same as your CPR number. If you have citizenship or tax residence in another country, the TIN number will be the corresponding tax number from that country.

Why must the TIN number be provided in the reporting?

Danish financial institutions are legally obligated to know their customers' financial circumstances and cash flows. This also applies to associations.

The obligation stems from legislation by the Financial Supervisory Authority, introduced to combat money laundering and terrorist financing in the EU. Part of this requirement is to know where the association's board members pay taxes — and that is exactly what the TIN number documents.

What if I am tax resident in multiple countries?

If you reside or are taxable in more than one country, you must provide the TIN number for each relevant country. If you are unsure about what applies to you, you should contact your local tax authority.
